Vivian Dorsey

January 25, 1925 — December 22, 2013

Vivian Dorsey was called home to be with The Lord on December 22, 2013 at the age of 88. She was born on January 25, 1925 in McCall, Louisiana to the late Herbert Johnson and Mary Ponson. She was married to the late Washington Dorsey and to this union eight children were born. Vivian was baptized at a young age at St. John's Baptist Church in Dorseyville, Louisiana. Upon marrying Washington Dorsey who was an NCO in the United States Army, Vivian's life changed dramatically while traveling throughout the United States and abroad. In 1972, she settled with her large family in Aurora, Colorado. The deaths of Calvin in 1978 and Regina in 1979 proved to be the most difficult time in Vivian's life. If not for her faith, she may not have survived the grief of losing her two middle children. She would wake each morning singing, "I'm so glad. I got my religion in time." Vivian was an extraordinary woman. She never met anyone she did not like and everyone who met her sensed her gentle spirit and loving nature and were compelled to return that love. She did not have a selfish bone in her body and was very giving to those in need. Vivian will be remembered as a caring and fiercely devoted mother, a kind and loyal friend with a sassy quick wit and a heart of gold. She is survived by her children, Mary Louise Kelley (Leonard), Washington Dorsey, Jr., Demitta Gales, Rodney Dorsey (Karen), Michelle Peterson (Keith), Damon Dorsey (Kelly), 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and best friend, Margaret Black. Vivian was preceded in death by her mother Mary Ponson, father Herbert Johnson, brother Ernest Westley, 2 children, Calvin Tyrone Dorsey and Regina Lynn Dorsey. Although your children love you Mom, God loves you best. Sleep on Miss Lady and take your rest.
