Steven Elliott

September 3, 1946 — September 11, 2021

Denver, CO

Steven Lawrence Elliott was born Sept 3, 1946 to Benjamin Franklin and Laura Jean (Hanna) Elliott in Dodge City, KS. He spent his childhood growing up on the family farm in Montezuma, KS before moving to Dodge City.

Steve attended Dodge City High before enlisting in the military. He traveled the world as a Marine, serving in the Vietnam war before receiving an honorable discharge in 1971. He began his civilian career at Grain Products in Dodge City. After moving to Aurora, CO, he attended college for computer information systems and worked as an analyst at IBM for many years before finishing his career at First Data Corp.

One of his greatest passions was horse racing. Beginning as a young man, he owned and raised several horses over the years and raced them in various states. He loved attending races or just watching them on tv.

Steve maintained an active lifestyle by cycling, golfing, and traveling; crossing skydiving off his bucket list later in life. He always prioritized time with his kids, Shelbie, Ben and Denise, and enjoyed taking them fishing, horseback riding and Go-kart racing during their youth. He was an extremely proud father and doting grandfather, who loved spending time with his adoring grandkids and great-grandson.

Steve departed this life on September 11, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Stanley, Terry, Benjamin and Mark Elliott. He’s survived by his children: Shelbie and Ben Elliott and Denise (Rayford) Johnson; grandchildren: Curt, Celestina and Christian; great-grandson: Cayden; sisters: Susan Walker and Deborah Pipkin; and several nieces. He will be greatly missed.

Miss Me But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little-but not too long
And not with your head bowed low
Remember the love that we once shared
Miss me-but let me go

For this is a journey that we all must take
And each must go alone.
It's all part of the Master's plan
A step on the road to home

When you are lonely and sick of heart
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds
Miss me but let me go.
