Richard Gay

March 14, 1934 — July 19, 2014

Richard Gay was born, the 4th of 6 children on March 14, 1934 to Ruth Ada Washington and Lemme Gay in El Paso, Texas. He moved to Denver with his Mother and Siblings as a young boy, over 70 years ago. He was shy and didn't do a lot of talking unless he had something to say he thought was important. He was the baby of the family for quite a while until LeAndrew was born. Richard did not have a formal education, but was quick to learn. He later learned to read and write. He got his inspiration from the Holy Bible. Richard was a member of the huge Boyd Family and always had family around. In his teens, he enjoyed boxing and being around his siblings, JC, Leroy, Moses, LeAndrew, and Ruth Ellen "Cooky" as well as his many cousins. Richard always stayed in and around the Holiness Church, but in his later years, when he realized he needed to be rescued from himself, he gave his life to the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior. He became serious about serving the Lord. Richard became a member of New Testament Holiness Church under the leadership of Elder Lee Harris. He was active in the church until his health began to decline. Richard was an excellent caregiver for his mother, Ruth Ada Smith, for many years. He was right by her side to the very end. As a profession, Richard worked for the City and County of Denver where he loved his career as a custodian. Richard enjoyed all of the people he met in this profession. He retired from the City and County of Denver. Richard will be remembered for his sense of humor and his sense of fairness and generosity toward others, especially family. He was a quiet and peaceful man. To know him was to love him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Ada Smith and Lemme Gay; and 3 brothers, Leroy Wright, Moses Gay and LeAndrew Smith. Richard loved the Lord! But God loved him more! So much more that He gave him a restful transition from this life to a new home in Glory on July 19, 2014. Richard leaves to cherish his memory one brother, James "JC" Westbrook of Dallas, Texas; one sister Ruth Ellen (Steve) Bryant-White of Las Vegas, Nevada; a sister in law, Wanda Gay of Dallas, Texas; two special cousins, Shirley Bean of Denver, Colorado and Dorothy Jones of Aurora, Colorado, who have been there for him in his latter days; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
