James Wooten

February 27, 1961 — July 13, 2012

Life's Journey James Edward Wooten, Jr. James Edward Wooten, Jr. was born on February 27, 1961, in Denver, Colorado to his parents, James Edward Wooten, Sr. and Georgia Alice Allen. He was raised surrounded by his brothers, Clarence, James and his sisters, Carolyn, Mary, Bertha, Ilein and Chelia. As a child, he loved playing basketball and football. He was a jovial person and enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. James received his formal education in Chicago, Illinois, where he graduated Calumet High School. He furthered his education by attending Metropolitan Skills Center, where he earned a Basic Nursing Assistant certification. On August 10, 1996, James united in holy matrimony to Kassie Mae Harris. The couple first met at Jackson Square Nursing Center in Chicago. They exchanged vows at Antioch Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado. Kassie remembers him as loving, caring and having a wacky personality. She fondly reflects on James rolling her hair so tight that is was in knots and he thought the best thing to do was to cut her hair; Kassie's response "Not". To this union, Eric, Christopher and Clarence were born. They remember their father as teaching them to be men, to cook, and barbeque and to defend themselves. A favorite childhood memory was that of James marching to a local convenience store demanding a refund because CJ had been charged $5.00 for one stick of butter; when the store owner refused. James took a Louisville slugger and busted the glass in the front display case. When Chris graduated from high school, James was so excited that as soon as he heard Christopher's name, he ran up on the stage just to give his son a rose. Later his grandchildren, Shaneesa, Shalisa, Janessa, Kaila, Angelique, Ajahia, Daysi and LayLay were an additional source of joy and pride in his life. They lovingly called him, "Picklehead", "Grand Pa" or "Grandad" and he in turn gave them such nicknames as "Blackie" "Red", "Double Trouble", "Miss Know It All" or "Snookle-Doodle", they too shared many happy and precious moments together playing video games or just horsing around with each other. By profession, James was employed by the Denver Newspaper Agency as an Assistant Manager. His co-workers remember his hard work and dedication. He was respected for being fair, caring, and was known to be empathetic. He performed his duties with a spirit of excellence. A man of faith and belief in the Lord, for the past seven years, James worshipped at True Vine Missionary Baptist Church under the Pastoral leadership of Rev. Kenneth Johnson. He served his church and the Lord as Director of the Youth Choir. He played a major role in the refurbishing of the new church. He truly enjoyed his walk with the Lord and the fellowship shared with his church family. James was a fun loving man who enjoyed life and those he encircled, in his free time, he enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends. He loved working on cars, watching football, helping others and having a cold Heineken. He was great on the grill and didn't mind sharing it with others. His closest friends, Phillip Gordan and Bruce West, will miss the mutual camaraderie they shared together and James being a true and tested friend. James will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful man. To know James was to love him. James Edward Wooten, Jr. departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on July 13, 2012, in Englewood, CO. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving and devoted wife, Kassie M. Wooten, Denver; his three sons, Eric (Norma Jean) Wooten, Chicago, IL, Clarence (Fatima) Wooten, Aurora; and Christopher (Betsey) Wooten, Denver; his mother, Georgia A.
