Bobby Chappell

March 14, 1932 — May 26, 2021

Aurora, CO

Bobby Gene “Chap” Chappell was born March 14,1932 to his parents, Ed Chappell and Alta Wilson in Hennessey, Oklahoma.  At the age of five, Bobby’s family moved to Wichita, Kansas where Bobby (lovingly called “Chap”) was loved unconditionally by his mother, Alta and his six sisters, “his

angels.” These ladies ensured that Chap wanted for nothing.  At the age of 14, Chap was gifted a car by his angels, which the family to this day laughs about.  Chap had not learned how to drive a car and definitely not the stick shift he was gifted with!

Chap attended and graduated from the Wichita School District in 1950.  A week following graduation, Chap and his two best friends, Frank and Gerald Underwood, enlisted in the United States Army.  Chap served his country with dignity, and received an honorable discharge for services rendered from 1950 – 1953.  Thank you for your service, Chap!

In 1955, Chap married Mary Lou Hullaby and to this union three children were born, Troy Ann Brown, Dale Ray Chappell, and Verdell Chappell.

In 1957, Chap began his career at Martin Marrietta in Denver, Colorado as an Electrician.  Chap excelled at his career choice and retired with honors in 1994.  Chap loved his job and looked forward to the company picnics each year.

Chap was an excellent swimmer and a gifted bowler. He was a member of the Eureka Men’s Club whose mission was to provide college scholarships for African American youth in the area. Chap loved

to socialize; he never met a stranger.

You could always find him on the dance floor no matter what song was playing.

Chap loved to dance!  He had a

particular fondness for “old school” music.  His favorite artists were The Dells, Johnnie Guitar Watson, and Sade to name a few.

On July 13, 1968, Chap married Bayonne Sanders and became father to her seven children, which he loved as his own.  For 54 blissful years, Chap and Bayonne were inseparable.  They were husband and wife, best friends, and perfect companions.  Bayonne saved every single Birthday, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day card that she received from Chap for 54 years.

No matter the cost of the card, $30.00 or $1.00, she cherished them all. Bayonne stated that “Chap was my one true love, my best friend. I will forever love Chap.”

Chap was a Denver Bronco and Denver Nuggets fan! He would often cheer on the home team with his closest friends,

Louis Smith, Larry (Robin) Green, and Bill Wilkins.

Bobby Gene “Chap” Chappell departed this life on May 26, 2021, in Aurora, Colorado.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed Chappell and Alta Wilson; two sons, Dale Ray Chappell, and Michael Parsons; grandson, Ray A. Chappell, Sr.

Chap leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Bayonne Chappel; his daughter, Troy Ann (Clarence) Brown, Denver, CO;  son, Verdell (Pat) Chappell, Westminster, CO; he also leaves six children he helped raise as his own, Robin (Larry) Burrell,

Kevin (Gay) Parsons, Kim Parsons, Bayonne Anderson, Pam Anderson, and Alex Anderson all of Denver, CO; 21 grandchildren to include, Ashley Anderson who Chap and Bayonne raised as their own from a baby; 38 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Pastor James Saunders; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

We will always love you CHAP!
