Wilbon Lee Johnson was born on October 15, 1956, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to his parents, William Lee Johnson, Sr. and Classie Mae Halliburton Johnson. He was affectionately called "Ricky" by family and friends. He was raised surrounded by his brothers, Kenneth, Philip and his sisters, Denise and Carol. They fondly remember him always controlling the remote. He would run to the family room so that he could watch what he wanted and because he was the older brother, he always won.
He received his formal education in Compton, California where he graduated from Compton High School in 1974. While in Carson, California, Ricky played in a basketball league at Victoria Park with his best friend, Ray Lemle. The two were lifelong friends and shared many memorable moments over the years. Shortly after graduation, he moved to Denver, Colorado.
Ricky was no stranger to hard work. He was employed in Construction. He worked at Rocky Flats, RTD, and Peter Kiewitt Construction. He worked alongside his grandfather and uncles, Alvin Hill and Clarence Halliburton, Sr. at Stapleton Airport. He was hardworking, dedicated, and performed all his duties with a spirit of excellence. He also enjoyed building Fireplaces.
A man of faith and belief, he accepted the Lord as his personal savior and joined Trinity Temple COGIC under the pastor leadership of the late Elder Alvin Hill. He played the Drums while serving his church.
Ricky was a fun-loving man, who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he enjoyed watching football. He was an avid Oakland Raiders Fan and he also enjoyed coin collecting. His closest friends, Ray Lemle, Clarence Halliburton, Jr. and Carl Halliburton will miss the camaraderie's they all shared together and the fact that he was a true and trusted friend. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know this kind and wonderful man who loved wearing Fadora and Kangol Hats. To know Ricky was to love him.
