LIFE'S JOURNEY

Wardale Carlis

Wardale Carlis, a cherished beacon of quiet strength and unwavering kindness, was born on October 27, 1954, in Denver, Colorado, to Warlena and Emma Jean Carlis (Jones). The fifth of their beloved children, Wardale’s childhood was filled with the warmth and camaraderie of his siblings—Winford, Pearl, Larry, Alberta “Che” Huggins, Margie Lee, Tammy, and Brenda Kay—forming a foundation of love that would carry him through life.

From an early age, Wardale nurtured a heartfelt passion for collecting model cars, a pastime that mirrored his thoughtful nature and stayed with him throughout the years. Those who knew him remember a steady, positive presence—a role model who exemplified quiet dignity and compassionate strength.

Wardale’s journey led him through East High School in Denver, where the roots of his character deepened. In 1981, fate wove a new chapter when he married JoAnn Carlis, a partner he met while both served the City and County of Denver. Together, they raised two treasured children, Brandon and Brittany, who were the true pride and joy of his life.

His spirit blossomed in the role of “Papa,” a devoted grandfather whose heart embraced Jareon and Kasyiah—the children of Brandon and Angelina—and Azarya “Muffett,” daughter of Brittany and Jarrod Olayiwola. Wardale found endless delight in coaching his grandson’s football team and passionately cheering on his granddaughters from the sidelines, creating memories steeped in love and shared triumphs.

Wardale dedicated over two decades to the City and County of Denver, where friendships blossomed alongside his tireless work. A man of deep faith, he embraced God early in life, guiding his family with conviction and heart. His spiritual journey carried him from longstanding membership at Heritage Christian Center to Hope City Church, places where his faith and community intertwined.

Sports—especially football and basketball—were a vibrant thread in Wardale’s tapestry of joys. A steadfast Denver Broncos fan, his enthusiasm was infectious. Through every game, every cheer, he celebrated life’s moments with unyielding spirit.

By his side throughout life’s journey was his oldest and dearest friend, Andre Brown, a steadfast companion through the years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Warlena and Emma Jean, and his sisters Tammy and Brenda, whose memories live on in the family he cherished so deeply.

On April 25, 2026, Wardale passed away peacefully at home, enveloped in the love of his family. His legacy endures in the hearts of his loving wife, JoAnn; his children, Brandon and Brittany; his siblings—Winford, Larry, Pearl, Alberta, and Margie—and countless extended family and friends who will forever hold his memory close.
