Ronald Thompson

September 30, 1950 — January 18, 2023

Ronald  Thompson was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 30, 1950, to the union of Doyal Thompson Sr. and Ethel Mae (Harris) Thompson (both deceased). He was the third child born to this union, and the fourth child born of Doyal Sr. He grew up happy, in a Christian household,  surrounded with love from his parents, and his siblings, who affectionately called him “Ronnie”.

His father relocated the family to Denver, CO, in 1961, to pursue better employment, and better education opportunities for his children. Ronnie continued his education in the Denver Public School system, graduating from East High School, in 1968. In  1970, he was  blessed with the birth of his only child, Michael Thompson.

Ronnie accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized  at Antioch Baptist Church, in Atlanta, GA. After relocating to Denver, he and his family joined New Hope Baptist Church, and became long standing members.

Ronnie inherited his father’s strong work ethic, and in his young teens worked as a paperboy in his neighborhood.  After high school, he pursued carpentry and gained skills as a  master carpenter, who could expertly lay any kind of flooring. After years in carpentry, he worked for United Airlines as a Skycap;   and at  Rocky Flats, for over 10 years, as a Security Guard.  He spent the latter part of his career working in healthcare, at both University and Children’s Hospitals, in environmental services.

As a child, Ronnie enjoyed playing baseball and making his own toys, like building go-carts out of roller skates and scrap wood. He loved music and was quite the dancer. In his prime he was known for being impeccably dressed.   He always wore a suit and tie, accessorized with the latest hats and jewelry, and you could always count on him to drive up in a nice ride. Ronnie was well liked and was gifted with a special, charismatic personality. He had a calm and cool demeanor, a great sense of humor, and was happiest when surrounded by family and friends.   He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ronnie departed this life on January  18, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents Doyal Thompson Sr., and Ethel Mae (Harris) Thompson. He leaves to cherish his memory, son, Michael Thompson (Sharmaine), Aurora, CO; sisters, Patricya Kimbro, Atlanta, GA, and Vivian Simmons (Sam), Kalamazoo, Michigan; brothers, Doyal Thompson Jr. (Janet), and Larry Thompson, Denver, CO;  four grandchildren, Terra Thompson, Houston, TX,  Shahrazad Thompson, Keelan Thompson, and Kobe Thompson, Denver, CO;  a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
