Life’s Journey
Robert Laurence Venters
Robert Laurence Venters was born to his parents, Georgia and Alfred Venters on October 8, 1951 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the youngest of four children born to this union and was raised with his siblings, Richard (twin brother), Alfred and Billie.
As a child, Robert enjoyed playing basketball, baseball and spending time with his friends and family. He was educated in Denver, Colorado and received his Diploma at East High School. Following high school, Robert furthered his education by attending trade school, where he became skilled in several trades.
Through the duration of his career, he worked as a Master Carpenter, Hairstylist and a Mechanic. He worked for companies such as Denver Water, and Mr. Ricky’s. In every position he worked, he did so with a spirit of excellence. He displayed dedication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
One day, while hanging out at the Horizon Lounge, Robert met a young lady named Donna Kay Thomas. They were joined in holy matrimony in Denver, Colorado. To this union, Tanya Lacha Venters was born. To this marriage he gained two bonus children, Cory Thomas and Toury Thomas. His children recall how dedicated and protective he was towards them. He was a man of his word and genuinely loved his children.
Robert gained an additional source of pride and joy with the addition of his grandchildren, Tre’Vone Purifoy, Tyson Purifoy, Gregory Purifoy and GeNae Purifoy. To them, he was affectionately known as “Paw Paw”. Robert was always present for his grandchildren, he made it to their football games, went to church with them and taught them life skills.
He was a man of faith who knew that his help came from the Lord. He attended many churches in Denver, but was spiritually connected to Shiloh Baptist Church.
In his free time, Robert enjoyed working on cars, and collecting antique items. He was a professional connoisseur that knew what vintage items had value. He also enjoyed hanging out with his best friends, Robert Shaw, Charlie and Charlotte, and most of all enjoyed spending time with his family.
Those that know him best describe him as loyal, authentic and persistent; when he set out to do something he was sure to get it done. He will truly be missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Tanya Venters; sister, Billy Marie; brother, Richard; 4 grandchildren, Trevone, Tyson, Gregory and GeNae and 1 great-grandchildren, Jaziah Purifoy.
