On August 11, 1945, Robert Wallace Eanes was born in Douglas, Arizona to his parents, Mary (Sam) Eanes and Columbus Eanes. After his dad’s untimely death, Robert’s mom returned to her hometown, Denver, Colorado, where Robert was raised. At the age of seven he became a big brother when his sister and only sibling, Nola (Wade) Owens was born. Robert made many lifelong friends while attending Wyman Elementary, Cole Middle School, and as a proud graduate of Manual High School Thunderbolts Class of 1963. One of his favorite childhood memories was marching in President John F. Kennedy’s inauguration parade as a drummer with the Denver Junior Police Band. In 1976, Robert received his bachelor’s degree from Metro State College in Denver. During his college years Robert continued to make long lasting friendships at various campuses throughout the country, including Colorado, Kansas, and Arkansas.
By profession, Robert served as a Labor Relations Officer with the State of Colorado where he worked for twenty-three years. During retirement Robert was heavily involved in his community. He served as chairman for The Points Historical Redevelopment Corporation and promoted Black culture by serving on committees for the Colorado Blacks Art Festival and The Denver Juneteenth Musical Festival. For several decades Robert looked forward to helping organize and attend his high school reunions.
Robert was blessed with the birth of his daughters, Yvette and Stefanie. He gained an additional source of pride and joy with the birth of his ten grandchildren. Robert enjoyed many years with his lifetime companion, Michele Pierre. His family will truly miss him.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Mary and Wallace Sam, his parents, Mary and Columbus Eanes, his grand-daughter Mary Evans, and his brother-in-law, Nate Owens.
