Oscar Lee Cowan Sr. was born July 19, 1928, to Ceola and Milton Cowan in Kensett, AR. He was the eighth of ten children and the sole survivor at the time of his death.

Oscar’s childhood was filled with the joy and love of a large family. He attended Arnold Chapel C.M.E. Church with his family. He united with Fountain of Hope African Methodist Episcopal Church in October, 2019. He enjoyed worshipping and reading the word

After graduating high school Oscar moved to Hot Springs, AR. He met and married the love of his life, Geneva Hampton in 1946. They relocated to Denver, CO in 1948. Two children were born to this union. He was the backbone and loved his family, always putting their needs before his own. Geneva passed away in 1991.

Oscar worked day and night to support his family. He was a butcher at Swift Packing House for over 20 years and the co-owner of Walton Bros Service Station.
