Opal Edlow

February 12, 1938 — May 20, 2013

Opal Irene Jackson Edlow was born on February 12, 1938, in Jefferson, Texas to her parents, Walter Jackson, Sr. and Doris Smith Jackson. She was the fifth child of 10 born in the family. She was raised surrounded by her brothers, Walter, Willie, Robert, Tommie, James, E.J., and her sisters, Emma, Julie and Pency. She received her early education in Jefferson, Texas where she graduated from Central High School. While in high school, she was a Drum Major and lead vocalist for the school orchestra. Opal furthered her education by attending College. In 1965, Opal united in holy matrimony to William Edlow. The couple first met while attending a social gathering attended by family and friends. They enjoyed traveling and spending quality time with family and friends. Opal was the proud mother of two sons, Thrison "Ron"and Mikecail. They remember her as loving, kind and a mother who's pride and joy was the care and nurture of her family. By profession, Opal was employed by US West Communications as an Executive Account Representative. She worked with the company for over 32 years before retiring. She was also employed by the Denver Public Schools as a Para Professional. She was assigned to Smiley Junior High School which happened to be located directly across the street from her home. She retired after a number of years of service. A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Opal was a faithful member of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church joining under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Harold T. Hicks. She also regularly worshiped at King Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Reverend T.E. Hendricks. She truly enjoyed her walk with the Lord and the fellowship shared with her church families. Opal was a fun loving woman who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she loved sending cards to family and friends for many different occasions. To Opal, nothing was greater than sending a card to uplift spirits; no matter the occasion, she wanted others to know, she cared and wanted to offer words of encouragement. She was an avid Denver Bronco Fan, who dressed in in full Bronco gear, just to watch a game on television. She loved to cook and was always ready to try a new recipe. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind, and wonderful lady who left a void that can never be replaced. To know Opal was to love her. Opal is preceded in death by her husband, William H. Edlow; a son, Thrison "Ron" Yarbrough; her parents, Walter and Doris Jackson; brothers, Walter Jackson and Robert Jackson and a sister, Emma Mae Blue.
