Michael Anthony Thomas, born April 12, 1961, passed away on August 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy marked by dedication, integrity, and warmth. Michael was the fourth child born to Lawrence M. and Mary L. Thomas, carving his own distinct path in life while honoring the foundation laid by his loving family.

Michael’s journey began in earnest with his education at McDuffy High School, after which he continued his studies at Emily Griffith Tech. His commitment to growth and service led him to the United States Army, where he served proudly from 1980 to 1986. Stationed first at Fort Jackson in South Carolina and later at Fort Carson in Colorado, Michael distinguished himself through commendable conduct. He received medals and recognition for his good conduct, marksmanship, and overseas service, reflecting both his discipline and his desire to serve with excellence.

It was during his tenure at Fort Carson that Michael met the love of his life, a moment he cherished, shaping his future both personally and professionally. After completing his military service, Michael contributed to his community as the lead in the traffic division for the City of Aurora. His diligence and leadership in this role underscored his dedication to service and his commitment to bettering the world around him.

Known for his loyalty and infectious smile, Michael was a man whose sense of humor endeared him to many. He had a passion for collecting comic books and enjoyed keeping up with the latest releases on YouTube. An active spirit, he also took pleasure in bike riding, channeling his zest for life into every pedal.

Throughout his life, steadfast friendships enriched Michael’s days—particularly his close bonds with Pierre Martin and John Murray, his best friends, who shared in many of his most meaningful moments. Michael’s devotion to those he loved was evident in his enduring relationships.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sheila Thomas, whose companionship and devotion stood as a testament to their deep and lasting love. Michael is also remembered by his sister, Shirley Nix, and his loving daughters, Tiphanie Thomas and NaTosha McGee. His legacy continues in the lives of his cherished grandchildren: Michael Carsten, Joshua Carsten, Zoe Carsten, and Lai'Lea Moore, each of whom brought him joy and pride.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Thomas; his mother, Mary Thomas; his brother, Montgomery Thomas; and his sister, Neda Keasler. While their absence was keenly felt, Michael honored their memory through his actions and character.
