Mary Lee Blackwell
Mary Lee Blackwell was born on May 22, 1937 in Plain Dealing, Louisiana. The youngest of nine children, she was lovingly known as "the baby," surrounded by a warm family filled with laughter and love, including her brothers Charlie, Jack, Bubba, and Dubb, and sisters Lessie, Clara, Ida, and Bessie.
Mary's devotion to her family began early; as a child, she found joy in attending church and assisting her mother with household tasks, shaping her nurturing spirit that would define her life. One of her fondest memories was of a pet calf that sparked tales of her adventurous childhood.
After completing her education at Carrie Martin High School in Plain Dealing, Mary ventured into a life devoted to home and family. On April 30, 1961, she married Thomas James Blackwell during a double wedding ceremony in Louisiana that remained a treasured memory for her family. Together, they welcomed a son, Dennis James Blackwell, who she raised with boundless love, along with numerous children not of her blood, such as Timothy, Allen, Sheila, and many others, who experienced her unwavering maternal embrace.
Mary was not just a mother but a grandmother who epitomized unconditional love. Her grandchildren—Darian, Chara, and Caelynne—hold her close within their hearts, recalling the moments spent together, shared laughter, and lessons learned. Darian remembers leisurely shopping trips and the joy of QVC shopping sprees, while Chara treasures quiet afternoons with peanut butter sandwiches and "Blue's Clues." Caelynne reflects on the depth of their bond, the understanding, and the joy found in nature, gardens, and heartfelt conversations.
Her life was multifaceted, a tapestry woven with compassion, faith, and selflessness. As a homemaker, Mary created a haven filled with warmth, comfort, and sumptuous meals that brought family and friends together. Her devotion extended to her community as she served as a pastor’s wife and a home missionary, passionately spreading joy and kind.
Mary spent her leisure time tending to her plants, engaging in her love for cooking and baking, and enjoying time spent with her best friend, Elaine Rosborough. Her vibrant spirit and love for life will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her.
On December 7, 2025, Mary peacefully departed from this world, wrapped in the love of her cherished family at home. She is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas; her son, Dennis and daughter-in-law, Chantielle; her grandchildren; her great-grandson, Lukas; and countless nieces, nephews, and those who adored her like family.
She will always be remembered as a devoted mother, a loving grandmother, and an inspiring woman whose spirit will continue to shine brightly among us.
