Marjorie Henderson

April 14, 1955 — July 4, 2025

Marjorie Henderson was born to her parents, Bernice & Earnest L. Henderson on April 14, 1955 in Amarillo, TX. She was raised with her siblings, Ralph and Cynthia. As a child, Marjorie was very protective of her siblings, she treated them as if they were her own children. Her siblings recall that she always had a kind sensitive heart, yet she was firm when she needed to be. Every so often, she got in the habit of lifting her arm and balling up her fist when she was letting you know that you better not mess with her. She carried this through her entire adulthood until she could not do so any longer.

A graduate of Sweetwater High School, Marjorie went on to have a long career working in housekeeping, bartending, and childcare. She was employed with companies such as Amerisuites, Amarillo School District, and Tip Top Lounge. She was known for the warmth she brought to her occupations and the joy she found in the company of her colleagues.

In her free time, she found pleasure in shopping at thrift stores where she made connections with those around her. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends, Adelia Hall, Janell Johnson-Carolina, Betty Barnett Patricia McIntrie and Connie Franklin.

Marjorie's life journey led her to marry Johnny Tovias on April 15, 1972, in Sweetwater, Texas, where they shared many beautiful moments together.

A woman of faith she proudly served as a member of Bethel AME Church in Sweetwater, where she also held the role of Sunday School Secretary, this was truly her pride and joy.

Marjorie's caring nature extended beyond her immediate family and friends, impacting the lives of many.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Bernice and Earnest L. Henderson; and brothers, Ralph P. Henderson and Quincy Henderson.

She is survived by her sister, Cynthia; brother, Boyd Lee Henderson; Godchild, Hydea McNeal; nephews (daycare children), Deshawn Tyrell and Neela Okurut; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who cherished her dearly.

Marjorie Henderson will be remembered for her compassionate, forgiving spirit and the love she freely shared with all around her. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
