LIFE’S JOURNEY

Maple Jean Stevenson

Maple Jean Stevenson was born on August 8th, 1945 in Elmore City, OK to her parents, Richmond H. Prince and Ivory E. Prince. Maple attended school in Elmore City with all of her siblings and when she and her siblings weren’t attending school, they were either picking cotton, attending to the chores at home or hanging out with loved ones.

While attending high school in Elmore City, Maple began dating Herman Gene Stevenson and shortly after Maple gave birth to their son, Donald Ray Stevenson. Maple and Herman separated and after several years Maple met Bernard and gave birth to their daughter, Acqua Netta Prince.

Maple moved to Denver, CO in 1972 with her children, for additional opportunities. She and Herman rekindled their spark and were married in 1977. In Maple’s 28 years of living in Denver she worked for The Children’s Hospital for a faithful 25 years serving as a Unit Secretary and during these years she became a grandmother to, Donald Deshon Ray Stevenson, Dontae Chambers, Julian Dain Burdette and Brendon Cole Burdette The amount of joy she had from being a loving grandmother was immeasurable.

In 2000 Maple and Herman separated and she moved to Dallas, TX where she stayed until 2010. During her time in Dallas she was close to her siblings whom she loved and would see regularly. Her children would visit often and also bring her grandchildren to visit as well. When not visiting or being visited by family, she would work at a couple of different hospitals as a Unit Secretary until she retired.

In 2010 Maple returned to Denver due to health issues where she would stay until her passing. The years leading up to Maple’s passing, she was able to spend time doing what she loved which was spending lots of time with her children and grandchildren and just having a great time with everyone around her.

Throughout the years, Maple enjoyed traveling all over the states and outside the country. Maple always enjoyed being able to travel with her family no matter where the destination was. She was blessed to visit New York, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Chicago, San Francisco or Florida and even Japan, Germany, Hawaii and France. While in Denver she loved to throw huge parties every Labor Day weekend and invite everyone from in state and out of state and have some of her famous cooking and listening to great music and being surrounded by loving family and friends. A few of her other things she enjoyed was always watching her westerns for hours and she always loved a great movie or watching an exciting basketball game, especially with either the Lakers with Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant or the Golden State Warriors with Steph Curry and Maple always said “that little boy can play!”

Maple is preceded in death by her father, Richmond H. Prince and  mother, Ivory E. Prince; her sisters, Lilian Peters and Velois Goode; her brothers, R.H. Prince, Osborn Franklin (Big Jim.);  her son, Donald Ray Stevenson and her grandson Dontae Chambers.
