JoAnn Woolfolk

June 3, 1944 — May 4, 2024

JoAnn Fenay Woolfolk was born on June 3, 1944, in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She was an only child. JoAnn's vibrant spirit touched the lives of many throughout her journey.
 
From a young age, JoAnn displayed a passion for music, dance, and fashion. Her memories as a child were filled with singing, dancing, and dressing up. 
 
JoAnn pursued her education at East St. Louis Senior High School in East St. Louis, Illinois before continuing her studies at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Known for her dedication she earned her associate degree in Business Administration.

She later gained employment and became the lead Compliance Officer for the Illinois Civil Rights Commission.

JoAnn met a wonderful man by the William Arnold Woolfolk, the couple were united on January 15, 1966, they shared 58 wonderful years together.

Known for her kind and compassionate nature, JoAnn was admired for her ability to connect with everyone she met. She never had a negative word to say about others and welcomed all with open arms. Her humility and grace left a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of knowing her.

In her free time she loved reading, writing, skating, and modeling. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Starr Martin, Joniece Acevedo (Woolfolk),
 Sierra Anderson, La-Teisha Woolfolk, Bruce Anderson, Jr. and Donald Winston, Jr.


Among JoAnn's proudest accomplishments was her advocacy work that led her to Washington, D.C., where she played a pivotal role in changing laws in Belleville, IL. Her commitment to equality resonated deeply with all who worked alongside her.
 
JoAnn is survived by her loving husband, William Woolfolk; cherished daughters Stefanie (Derrick) Stanton (Woolfolk) and Kathy Carter; along with a large family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will forever hold her close in their hearts.
 
She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
