Forever in Our Hearts
Jerry Donald Draper was born December 20th, 1951 in Sawyer, Oklahoma. He was the youngest of five
children. Between him and his other siblings there was a twelve age gap. Jerry often reminisced and
knew how loved (spoiled) by his parents and siblings. Jerry would also fondly recall how his mother
would affectionately call him “roustabout” due to his roaming nature.
The Draper family moved to Colorado in 1957, where Jerry attended Denver Public Schools and
graduated from Manual High School. After high school, Jerry became a dedicated employee of the City
and County of Denver. He was a loyal employee for more than 21 years; until an injury caused him to
retire early. In his spare time, Jerry loved to collect porcelain antique dolls, model T cars, and Vintage
Cadillacs’. He was also well known for scrapping metal.
As an outdoorsman, Jerry enjoyed fishing, hunting and grilling various types of wildlife.
And as a sportsman, he never wavered on his favorite NFL team”the Denver Broncos”. Good or bad,
Jerry was a die hard, core Bronco fan.
In his walk with Christ, Jerry joined the house of Joy Deliverance Miracle Church in April, 1985 and
was later baptized May 5th, 2002. As a faithful servant to the Lord, he served on the Deacon board,
usher ministry and became the church daycare bus driver. As the driver , his fellow church members
would like to highlight how much the children adored him. He received many
accolades, acknowledgments and certificates for outstanding service at the church.
In his early years, Jerry met Deborah at Cole junior high. Many years later they became reacquainted and
married November 20th, 1997. As a couple, they enjoyed taking short trips to the mountains, grilling at
home and bowling with church members.
Jerry was a rebel who lived life on his own terms He never hid who he was and could often be heard
saying “Be real with me, cause I’mma keep it real with you.” In fact, you could say “Keep it Real” was
his words of advice and his mantra.
