Hosea Barnes, Jr.

March 28, 1943 — March 15, 2023

Denver, CO

Hosea Ernest Barnes Jr. was born March 28, 1943, in Beaumont, Texas. to the union of Hosea E. Sr. and Elizabeth J. Barnes. He was the only child of this union that was later dissolved. His father remarried, and later had 4 more children Ray, Willie, Janis and Grethan Barnes. As a child Hosea’s father spent quality time with his children and was intentional in making sure they grew up together and knew one another.

Hosea attended both secondary and high school through the public-school systems in Beaumont, Texas. He was a star athlete throughout his high school career at Charloton Pollard High School, and upon graduating, he earned a full football scholarship to Texas A&M Prairieview. At the age of 18 Hosea decided against collage, and join his mother in Denver Colorado, where he met Patricia Gray, and became the proud Father of Paula Gray. He later met, and married Marsha R. Combs in December of 1968, and became a father for a second time to Lona Lee Michelle Barnes.

Following the dissolvement of this union, Hosea found love again, and married Annie McClinton on March 23, 1985, and from this union he became the proud father of a son Hosea Dametrich Barnes 3rd and Ebony Sherre. Barnes. Hosea loved his children and strived to follow in his father’s footsteps by instilling family values, and ensuring his children knew, and loved one another. Hosea’s pride and joy were his grandchildren Tawana Barksdale, Jayden Barnes, Elijah Nowling, Kani Barnes, Kendrell Barnes, and Alondra Rice to them, he was affectionately known as Grandpa.

By profession, Hosea worked with his hands in mostly laborer roles. He worked for numerous companies over the duration of his career and learned many trades. Hosea was the grandson of pasture and continued to be a man of faith who attended church at Hope Baptist Church. He had numinous interest, and enjoyed spending time with friends, and family playing cards, dominos, and watching Denver Bronco football. Many are unaware of his hidden talent as a magnificent cook. He was also a member of the Elk’s Organization.

Hosea passed away on March 15, 2023. Those left to cherish his memory include his four children, Paula, Lona, Hosea, 3rd., and Ebony, and six grandchildren, along with his 4 siblings and a host of family and friends.
