Gussie L. Robinson was born on May 10, 1938, in Selma, Alabama to her parents, Corene Robinson and Isiah Robinson. She was the third child born in the family and was raised with her siblings, Arthur B. Robinson and Cora D. Robinson, creating lifelong bonds that shaped her heart and spirit. From her earliest days, Gussie was not shy, she was known to go from neighbor to neighbor visiting and asking for nickels.
Gussie received her education through the Denver Public School System. She was a proud Manual Thunderbolt who graduated in 1956. That same year, in a deeply intimate ceremony at her mother’s home, she married Willard R. Robinson, Sr., a union that brought forth beloved children: Zina Renee, Willard R., Jr. and Frank were born. She was later blessed with the birth of her youngest daughter, Denise Darcell. In 1984, she found renewed companionship with Charles Roberts, whom she married in Denver, this marriage was later dissolved.
Gussie’s professional life was characterized by dedication and excellence as a Communications - Data Entry Specialist with Mountain Bell and subsequently US West. Her commitment extended beyond her duties as she became a longtime steward for the union, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues. She carried these friendships with her colleagues for many years.
Her faith was an anchoring pillar; having accepted Christ early in life, Gussie was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Here, she found solace and community, fostering relationships that enriched her soul and guided her through all seasons of life.
Gussie was a woman of passion and who had a nurturing spirit. She delighted in hosting family gatherings filled with laughter, delicious barbeques, fish fries; and she enjoyed the homemade ice cream that her husband made. She was a gifted cook and exceptional dancer, her energy and grace on the dance floor were matched only by her love for babies and children. Travel held a special place in her heart, with San Francisco crowned her favorite city, a symbol of adventure and beauty she cherished.
Gussie shared a special bond with her sister Cora and cherished her connections with her daughter Renee, as well as dear friends Lillian Goldman, Liz, Casey, Odessa, and Christine
She was preceded in death by her parents, Corene and Isiah Robinson; brother, Arthur B. Robinson; sister, Cora D. Robinson; granddaughter,Taisha Leshay; great grandson, Tavarias; and son-in-law, George Johnston.
Gussie L. Robinson departed this life on March 29,2026 in Denver, Colorado. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Zina Renee Johnston, Willard R. (Elaine) Robinson, Jr., Frank (April) Robinson, and Denise Robinson; and embraced by her grandchildren: James B. Hampton, III, Kenya Trynee, Ricky Isiah, Amond Robinson and Styhl Driscoll; Great Grandchildren; bonus daughters, Diane Benjamin, Melanie Coleman; and nephew, Charles Robinson who was like a younger brother. Her legacy is further honored by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.
