Dorothy Lee

January 30, 1944 — December 6, 2012

On January 30, 1944, Dorothy Jean Lee blessed her parents, J.C. Lee and Opal N. Cole Lee with her birth in Henderson, Texas. She was the second child born in the family. She was raised surrounded by her brothers, Lindell, Lawrence, Alphonso, Dewayne, Alfred and her sisters, Reba and Eva. As a child, she was known to a bit of a tom boy. She loved following her brothers and would keep them out of trouble. They fondly remember her talking on the phone to school officials as if she was their mother telling them they were home. They also remember that she loved to cook. Dorothy received her formal education in Denver, Colorado where she graduated from Manual High School in 1963. Dorothy was the proud mother of two sons, Robin and Rodney. They remember her as loving, caring and nurturing. In 1980, she met Earmitt C. C. Jones at the Edna Oliver Day Care in Denver; with this union, Edna and Sylvia were now added to the family. Robin and Rodney remember her fussing at them for playing on "C.C.'s motorcycle when they were young. They also remember one Saturday morning they were headed downstairs and she having on some slippery house shoes and accidently knocking them down the stairs. The family shared many happy and precious moments together. Dorothy was the proud grandmother of Kelly, Roshad, Felisha, Brian, Daphine, Ariel, Rodney, Jr., Keena , Malachi, Shyree, Josiah, Arcella, and her six great grandchildren were an additional source of joy and pride in her life. They lovingly called her "Nana" and fondly remember all the happy and precious moments they all shared together. By profession, Dorothy was a Child Care Provider. She was loved by the children in her charge and respected by her coworkers and employers for being hard working and dedicated. She was the type of person who was a joy to work with. A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Dorothy was a member of Zion Baptist Church. She joined the church under the pastoral leadership of the late Reverend Wendell T. Liggins. She was a member of the Deaconess Ministry as well as the Alter Guild. She truly enjoyed her walk with the Lord and fellowship shared with her church family. She has been a member for over 31 years. Dorothy was fun-loving woman who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she enjoyed shopping, working cross word puzzles, visiting thrift stores and spending quality time with family and friends. Her closest friend was her companion, "C.C."; they loved to travel and have visited many points of interest across the country. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful woman who carried a warm personality and a smile that would light any room she entered. To know Dorothy was to love her. Dorothy Jean Lee departed this life to the Lord's embrace on December 6, 2012, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her husband, Earmitt C.C. Jones; two sons, Robin A. (Betty Moore) Smith and Rodney E. Smith; two daughters, Edna M. Jones and Sylvia L. Jones; her mother, Opal N. Stull; two brothers, Lawrence L. (Rev. Glenda) Lee and DeWayne (Georgette) Lee; one sister, Eva N.
