Dekoven Tyrone Irvin, born on February 22, 1975, in East Chicago, Indiana, to Brenda Vaughn and Arthur Irvin. He was the 2nd child born in the family. Dekoven’s creative spirit emerged early in life as he enjoyed drawing and creating art. His family fondly recalls that he would collect aluminum and exchange them for cash from the can shop. He would work/volunteer at the Boys n Girls clubs including in Colorado.

Dekoven was a proud graduate of East Chicago Central High School. Dekoven worked several jobs in his career but found joy working as a Mail Processing Clerk with the United States Postal Service.

Dekoven had an exceptional ability to light up a room with his smile and sense of humor. His playful nature often led him to enjoy giving people a hard time, which endeared him further to his friends and family.

His family fondly remembers the time spent together; his daughter Alayah recalls cherished outings with her father to establishments such as Loco Pollo and Wing Stop, accompanied by trips for nail appointments. His son, Dekoven Irvin, Jr., shared a passion for working on cars with his father and playing card games such as spades as well as I Declare War," showcasing his competitiveness. Uniqua recalls a time her Dad return to Indiana & surprised her. She remembers being called to the dining room. He was standing next to a glass china cabinet. They pointed asking her who was that, she looked and said It’s Me. She saw herself in her Dad.

Dekoven was a man deeply rooted in family values. He took great pride in being a father and grandfather, striving to create memories with his loved ones. In his free time, Dekoven enjoyed cooking, spending time with friends and family, and enjoying a cold beverage. Even as a child, he demonstrated his caring nature by collecting cans to purchase candy for all the neighborhood kids, ensuring that joy was shared throughout his community.

Dekoven Tyrone Irvin leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, and the understanding that family comes first. His vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will remain strongly in the hearts of those he cherished.
