OBITUARY

D.C. Smith

D C Smith entered this life on July 24, 1927 in Hempstead County (Washington) Arkansas to Henry Smith and Lillie Smith, he was their fourth child. He attended Blevins Training School and graduated in 1945. While in school he met and married Myrtle M. Calvin in January 1949 and to this union, four children were born.  Needing to provide for his growing family and put his mechanical training to use, DC enlisted in the United States Airforce in 1952. The Airforce trained DC to be part of an aircraft maintenance squad, as a Mechanical and Electronics Instrument Technician. During his military career, D C did two tours in Okinawa Japan and lived on four other Airforce bases in the United States, before ending his career in 1965 in Denver, CO at Lowry AFB as an E4. Never one to sit long, after leaving the Airforce, D C worked as an Asphalt Plant Operator, Automotive Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Operator and he also drove dump trucks. The military must have instilled a love of travel and “fixin’ stuff” in D C, because the experience prompted him to become a Semi Tractor Trailer Owner Operator where he purchased his own “rig” which then led him to contracting his services to Land Star Ranger, Inc. for over 30 years where he retired in the early 2000’s.

It was known to just about everyone, that DC could “fix just about anything” with moving parts that wasn’t moving anymore!  He was known as a jack of all trades!

D C enjoyed driving over open roads and working for himself. This gave him the opportunity to visit with family and friends all over the US.  His favorite traveling companion was his little dog Jazz who wouldn’t eat anything he wouldn’t eat!  He could also argue about the best routes to take to get where you need to be without going “all that out of the way to get to your destination”.

At his core, he had a kind heart, was easy going, and generous.

Later in life, D C met and married Vera Mae Dye who preceded him in death. D C was a believer and a member of King Baptist Church in his later years. We are comforted in knowing that years before being called home from this earth, D C had professed his faith in God.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children Joyce Smith, Kenneth Smith, Davitt Smith, Darryl Smith (Gwen) all of Denver, CO, Sabrina Robinson (Ellis) of Ft. Smith, AR

20 Grand Children Uhrann Smith, Ladon Smith, Tai Marie Smith, Tyrone Smith, Bianca Gant, Sable Gant, Dedrick Gant, Christopher Smith, Elyisia Smith, Derrick Stewart, Qunicy Cook, Nicole Cook, Patricia Ghoston, Janet Smith, Tiffany Smith Anderson, Terrance Smith, Larry Smith Jr, Alicia Pray, Tyanna Benson, and Lamont Morris, 47 Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Those who preceded D C in death, Vera Smith, Sharon Smith (OH), Davitt Smith Jr. (CO), Larry Smith, and Garry Smith (MO).

In the famous last words of D C – “All lika that there”
