David Earl Patterson

July 11, 1956 — September 9, 2025

We celebrate the remarkable life of David Earl Patterson, born July 11, 1956, in Denver, Colorado, to Loretta Montgomery Patterson and David Lee Patterson. He grew up surrounded by faith and love, walking through life with his brothers Donell, Ronald, and Donald, his sister Shirley, and forever cherishing the memory of his sister Queen, who preceded him in death.

From a young age, he carried with him a passion for both academics and athletics. He attended South High School, where he excelled on the football field and track, becoming a standout athlete who won numerous championships and left a legacy of determination and sportsmanship.

After graduating, David pursued higher education at the University of Northern Colorado Greeley, where he earned a master’s degree in communications on a four year scholarship for track. Always eager to learn and grow, he also obtained an associate degree in Computer Science, a testament to his curiosity and dedication to knowledge.

David’s professional life reflected his discipline and leadership. Most of his career was in Collections, where he excelled and received numerous awards, a reflection of his strong work ethic and dedication. He was a Junior Achievement volunteer who shared his personal and professional experience with students from the community. But it was his retirement years that many remember most fondly. His greatest joy came from the simple pleasures of life—spending time with family, playing games, and sharing laughter. He and his brother, Donell, were inseparable. Their bond was one of friendship and brotherhood, as they spent nearly every day together talking, socializing, and bringing joy to those around them.

Known for his warm smile and competitive spirit, David loved playing dominoes, spades, and bingo, always turning the games into moments of fun and connection. Above all, he cherished time with his family, who were the center of his world. He especially treasured moments with his children and grandchildren, who brought him endless joy and pride. Whether cheering them on, sharing wisdom, or simply enjoying their company, David found his greatest happiness in those precious times together.

Faith was also an important part of David’s life. He was an active and dedicated member of Spottswood AME Zion Church, where he found community, purpose, and spiritual strength. His presence in the church family was deeply valued, and his commitment to faith guided how he lived—with kindness, humility, and love for others. He is preceded in death by his parents Loretta and David Lee Patterson and his sister Queen E. Whayne (Alan).

David will be remembered as a man of strength, loyalty, and compassion. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

David Earl Patterson departed this life on September 9, 2025. He leaves behind his son David Donell Bland, his daughter Davida Young, his three brothers, Donell Patterson (Tina), Ronald (April) Patterson, Donald (Yvonne) Patterson, and his sister Shirley Whayne (Mike), all of Denver, Colorado; his two beloved grandchildren Simone & Sanaa; as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones.
