Life’s Journey

Clabrine Harvey, Jr.

To plant a seed in one’s heart…to root it in love…

To nourish it with time spent together…

Yields a blossom that will flourish forever.

Clabrine Harvey, Jr. affectionately called “Shugg” by family and friends was born on November 9, 1956, in Denver, Colorado to his parents, Clabrine Harvey, Sr. and Georgia Mae Simmons Harvey.  He was the second child born in the family.  He was raised surrounded by his brother, Vernell.  As a child, he was close to his brother and always looked up to him.  He enjoyed playing with his hot wheel cars, riding his bike around the city, and he loved to eat.

Clabrine received his formal education in Denver where he graduated from East High School.  He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, where he was stationed in San Francisco.  He served with honor and distinction and was honorably discharged.

On July 11, 2002, Clabrine wed, the former Lanett M. Edmonds in Denver, Colorado.  They first met at Skyland Park.  The shared many happy and precious moments together.  Lanett remembers how they were often called “Bonnie and Clyde.”  He was the proud father of sons, Clabrine, Anthony, Isaiah, Emaree, daughters, Lilly, Startrice, and Ja-Lynn.  With his marriage, he became the step-father of Cameron, and Alonzo.  They all knew their dad was always around when they needed him. He was later blessed with four grandchildren, Parrish, Harlem, DeShon, and Mercedez who all were an additional source of joy and pride in his life.  They lovingly called him “Big Baby and Buggie Man” and fondly remember his love of cars, going to the park, and watching TV.

Clabrine was no stranger to working hard to support his family.  He had been employed with Sam’s BBQ, he has worked as Chef, Roofer, Construction Worker, KFC, Churches Chicken, and Arc Thrift Store.  Wherever employed, he was hard working, dedicated, and worked as Manager in  places he worked.

A man of faith and belief in the Lord, Clabrine was a faithful member of End Time Christian Center under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Malcolm Guss.  He loved the fellowship with his church family and his pastor.  He sang in the church choir. At the time of death, he had been a member for over 18 years.

Clabrine was a fun-loving man, who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he loved to BBQ and hang out with his friends.  His closest friends, Harold Wilson, William Holloway, and many of his family members will miss all the special moments they all shared together and the fact that he was there when needed.  He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and caring man. To know “Shugg” was to love him.

He is preceded in death by sons, Parrish D. Brooks, Sr. and Emaree S. Harvey; and his mother, Georgia M. Harvey.

Clabrine “Shugg” Harvey, Jr. departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on August 29, 2022, in Denver, Colorado.  Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his wife, Lanett M. Harvey; 3 sons, Clabrine (Tommika) Harvey Hysaw, Anthony Porche, and Isaiah Jones; 3 daughters, Lilly Porche, Startrice, and Ja-Lynn Harvey; 2 step-sons, Cameron E. (Tabitha) Smith, and Alonzo E.
