Chester James Carter

February 19, 1956 — May 16, 2025

Chester James Carter was born on February 19, 1956, in San Antonio, Texas to his parents, Lucy Lee Carter and Chester White. He was raised with his sibings, Carl, Carolyn, Mable and Johnnie.

As a child, Chester and his siblings enjoyed hanging out in the projects, dancing and embracing life. They created many memories together.

Chester was educated at Phillis Wheatley High School in Texas, where he completed his studies. He later attended Emily Griffith which equipped him with the skills to pursue a career in welding. At other points in his career, he held positions such as a meat cutter, blueprinter for hotels and working at the airport. He always fulfilled his duties with a spirit of excellence. Just when he thought life could not get much better, he met the love of his life, Ruthie Carter. The couple was united in marriage on February 9, 1977, in Denver, Colorado. To this union, they welcomed two children, Kareem and Kaneesha Carter, who became his pride and joy. His children loved seeing him dance and sing, he would also take the time to call others and wish them a happy birthday. They also loved watching him play basketball as he would dominate on the court.

To know Chester is to love him, he had an infectious laugh that could brighten anyone’s day, and he committed to making others smile. In his free time, he enjoyed dancing, singing, riding his bike, playing dominoes, basketball, and cards. He cherished the moments spent with his friends and, especially, his grandson, Kareem Isiah Carter.

His memory will forever be cherished by those whose lives he touched with kindness, laughter, and an unwavering spirit.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lucy Lee Carter and Chester White.

Chester James Carter is survived by his loving wife, Ruthie Carter; his children, Kareem Carter and Kaneesha Carter; siblings, Carolyn Kay Parks, Madie Jean (Roger) Rector and Johnnie Mae Adams, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Chester's legacy of love, laughter will continue to resonate, reminding all who knew him of the joy that life can bring when shared with those we hold dear.
