Charles Edward Craig, Jr. was born on June 14, 1963, in Muskegon, Michigan to his parents, Kattie Betts and Charles Edward Craig Sr. He was the 4th child of 6 boys born in the family. From an early age, Charles found joy and purpose in music and fellowship. He grew up in the church, quickly developing a passion for both singing and playing musical instruments. By the age of twelve, he had already mastered the piano, and his love for music would become a cornerstone of his life. One of his fondest memories included his father bringing home wildlife for dinner. He also grew up surrounded by a big family of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Charles matriculated through Michigan Public Schools where he attended and graduated from Muskegon High School. This experience aided the foundation in his life’s blueprint. In 1983, Charles enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his basic training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina where he was named an expert shooter. While in basic training, he met who would soon be his wife, Lisa Craig. They were joined in holy matrimony in Ft. Knox, Kentucky on June 29, 1983. They were later blessed with the birth of Crystal Charles III and Christian. Charles was stationed in Ft. Waynewright, Alaska where he stayed through 1985. During his time of service, he was known as a great cook.

As life progressed, Charles was blessed with the special joy of becoming a grandfather. He cherished his role as “Papa” and “Grandpa” to JaVel, Bryant, Bella, Dawn, Kingsten, Zachary, Ella Mya, and Zion. His grandchildren recall that he was always supportive and present when they needed him.

Charles was known above all for his generosity, always ready to lend a hand or a kind word. His warmth extended beyond his immediate family, to his circle of friends including Alvin Carter, Brian Davis, and many others who became like family across the years.

In his professional career, Charles was a Cook and Choir Director, roles that allowed him serve with purpose. He was a man of faith that knew that his help came from the Lord! Charles particularly enjoyed playing the organ, often sharing his musical gifts with those in his church and community.

He leaves behind a loving family who will long carry his memory: Christian Craig, Lisa Craig, Zachary Arvin Craig, Ella Mya Craig, Kingsten Anderson, Zion Craig, Crystal Craig, Bella Banks, JaVel McClin, and Bryant Johnson. Each of them represents a facet of his lasting legacy of love, kindness, and resilience.

Charles’s life was defined by service, devotion, and a deep warmth that touched all who had the privilege to know him.
