Mother Carlene Marie Tidwell

 

Carlene Marie Tidwell, fondly known as Mother Tidwell, was a remarkable and compassionate soul who touched the lives of many.

 

Born on November 11, 1936, in the serene town of Bluff City, AK, Carlene imbued love and kindness into everything she did. Her nurturing spirit was evident from a young age, as she made it her responsibility to ensure that her brothers did not cause mischief within their home. Even then, her dedication to caring for others shone through.

 

Carlene's education was an important aspect of her life, shaping her into the extraordinary woman she became. She attended the Prescott School District, and in 1956, she graduated from McRae High School with determination and drive.

In 1956 Carlene was swept off her feet when she was approached by a young gentleman named Xavier Ollen Tidwell. They were shortly married thereafter. They settled down in Denver, Colorado and began a family. Doug, Britt, Deidra and Todd were an added source of love to this family.

 

Education being paramount in Carlenes life, she found herself furthering her knowledge and honing her skills by, pursuing a higher education at the Community College of Denver. Carlene's education in Health led her on a journey in the realm of healthcare which began in 1984, when she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She dedicated herself to providing comfort and care to those in need. Her devotion to her profession was unmatched, and she left an indelible mark on the lives of her patients through her empathetic approach and unwavering commitment.

 

Becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse undoubtedly ranked among Carlene's proudest accomplishments. However, it was not just professional accolades that brought joy to her heart; being a long-standing member of King Baptist Church in Denver filled her with a profound sense of fulfillment.

 

Carlene's love for singing resonated deep within her soul. She embraced the role of President of the Church Choir, guiding others through the power of music and fostering an atmosphere of unity and love. She also held prestigious positions within King Baptist Church as President of the Deaconess Board, exemplifying her dedication to serving her faith community.

 

Beyond her professional career and her church family, Carlene embraced various lifelong passions and interests. She had an exquisite talent for cooking hearty meals that would warm both body and soul. Her kitchen became a gathering place for loved ones who were eagerly drawn to the delicious aromas emanating from her stove.

 

The vibrant personality that Carlene embodied forever endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her loving and compassionate nature was contagious, spreading happiness wherever she went. A perpetual smile adorned her face as she reveled in seeing others enjoy themselves.

 

Carlene's family and friends meant the world to her, serving as a constant source of love and support throughout her life's journey.

 

Carlene was preceded in death by her beloved Husband, Xavier Ollen Tidwell, her father Thurman Purifoy, mother Norvis Purifoy, her brothers Claude "Man," Arthur "BeeBee," Dale “Cat" and her son Harold Tidwell. 

 

Carlene's passing leaves a void that cannot be filled within the hearts of those closest to her. She is survived by her sons Doug, Britt, and Todd and loving daughter, Deidra. additionally, Carlene's memory will forever be treasured by her grandchildren, Ebony, Brittany, Tanezaree, Caleb, great grand children, KMauri, Khila, Marshala, Pierre and Miss Parker. Her brothers Ollis "Bay Bay," John "Sumpy”. Her best  friend Evelma Judkins and Hattie Ashby, and a host of nephews, nieces, extended family, and friends.
