Bernice Foster was born at Grady Memorial Hospital on October 6, 1934, in Atlanta, Georgia to her parents, Lucille Grier Davis and Charles David Davis. She was raised with her siblings, Charles Davis II, Ruby Davis-Washington, Patricia Hill and William Hill, Jr.

Bernice's educational journey began in Atlanta, where she attended ER Carter Grade School, David Street Middle School, Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School and then graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1953. She furthered her education at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio, and the Community College of Denver, where she was recognized with various awards and certificates for her accomplishments.

Bernice was married to Charles Edward Foster on June 30, 1956. To this union, Cheryl, Charles, Jr., and Denice were born. She also gained a child to this union, Deborah Purdie-Williams. Their union lasted for 48 years until his passing, marking a remarkable journey filled with love and companionship. Together, they created beautiful memories, shared five lovely homes, and enjoyed a variety of experiences, including lavish shopping escapades.

In her professional career, Bernice worked as a Medical Records Technician, at Rose Memorial Hospital in Denver, CO where she retired in 1993. Her colleagues admired her hard work ethic, as she performed her duties with a spirit of excellence.

Throughout her life, Bernice maintained a strong connection to her faith. From a young age, she was deeply involved in the Church of God Holiness, where she was baptized and sang in the choir. Her passion for gospel music led her to travel across the United States with her choir. After moving to Denver, she became an active member of Heritage Christian Center and later the Potters' House, where her commitment to her church families was evident.

An enthusiast of art and culture, Bernice cherished attending luncheons, watching movies, dancing, and theater plays. Her interests extended to gardening and caring for her flowers, sewing, and baking. She found joy in traveling, shopping, and watching sports; including the PGA Tour, she was a dedicated fan of the Denver Broncos, Denver Nuggets, and admired athletes like Simone Biles.

Those that knew her best knew that she dressed like no other. Bernice was particularly known for her impressive collection of hats, affectionately dubbed the “Beauty of Hats.” These hats not only served as her signature style but also became symbols of her vibrant personality.

Bernice is preceded in death by her parents, Lucille Grier Davis and Charles David Davis; and her husband, Charles Edward Foster; and siblings, Charles Davis II, Ruby Davis-Washington and Patricia Hill.

Bernice fostered a loving family environment and is survived by her children, Cheryl, Charles Jr., and Denice; step-daughter, Deborah Purdie-Williams; grandchildren, Jesse, Garard, Joshua, Jordan, and Rhiann; and great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Janae, Jayden, Jianna and Kennedy; and brother, William Hill, Jr.

Bernice Foster's life was a testament to her faith, compassion, and the cherished moments spent with family and friends. Her joyful spirit, generous heart, and grounded faith touched the lives of those around her.
