Bennie Oscar Jenkins was born on May 21, 1932, in Greenville, South Carolina to his parents, Calvin Jenkins and Amanda Calhoun. He was the second child born in the family. He was raised along with his sister, Lula. He received his formal education in South Carolina. Shortly after graduating from high school, Bennie enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserve. While serving his country, he earned a National Defense Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. He served with honor and distinction and was honorably discharged. Bennie was blessed to have one child, Karl. The two of them shared many happy and precious moments together. Later his one grandchild and two great grandchildren were an additional source of joy and pride in his life. Bennie was employed by the airport as a janitor who was hard working displaying many talents. He was a man who was a natural born leader and a man who performed all his duties with integrity, honesty and always with a spirit of excellence. Bennie was a fun loving man who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he enjoyed watching television, and listening to the ballgame on the radio. He will best be remembered by his friends and family for being one of the most self-sacrificing, loyal kindhearted person you could have ever come to meet. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known the one of a kind guy who will never be forgotten. Bennie is preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Amanda Jenkins. Bennie Oscar Jenkins departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on May 21, 2013, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his son, Karl D. Journey, Denver; his sister, Lula Collins, California; one grandchild; two great grandchildren, the Reed Family, and a host of other relatives and devoted friends.
