Barbara Ann Cooks was born on April 13, 1958 in Natchez, Mississippi. She was the daughter of the late Richard Washington Jr. and Edna Logan Washington. She was Baptized in 1972 and attended Morning Star Baptist Church in Natchez, Mississippi. She graduated from North Natchez High School in 1976 of Natchez, Mississippi and later relocated to Denver, Colorado in 1985.

Barbara began her career working as a Transportation Agent for Denver Public School System where she served with a spirit of excellence and retired after 20 years of service.

In the community of Denver, she attended church services regularly at Heritage Christian Center under the leadership of Pastor Dennis Leonard. She later joined the Potters House of Denver, under the pastoral leadership of Mrs. Sarah Jakes Roberts. As a dedicated servant of our Lord Jesus Christ; Barbara helped to provide services for the needy and the poor in the Outreach Ministry at the church.

Barbara was an extraordinary woman- a beacon of strength, grace, and unwavering love. She was beautiful, not just in appearance but in spirit. Her kindness radiated, her smile lit up every room, and her heart knew no bounds.

A fiercely independent soul, she lived her life on her own terms - with courage, integrity, and resilience. No challenge was too great, no storm too fierce. Through every triumph and every trial, she stood tall, always guided by her principles and her boundless love for her family.

Above all, she was a devoted and loving mother. Her children were her greatest joy and her proudest legacy. She gave them everything- not just in care and nurture, but in example. She taught them to be strong, to be kind, to love deeply, and to never settle for less than they deserved.

Her impact will be felt for generations- in the lives she touched, in the family she built, and in the values she so gracefully embodied. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on in every life she made better simply by being a part of it.

We celebrate her life, her strength, her beauty and her boundless love. She was and will always be unforgettable.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Edna Washington; step brother, Kenny Washington; sister in law, Ola Washington; grandparents, Venne and Marie Logan; six uncles and five aunts.
