Alice Jean Darden was born March 12, 1959, she was born in the majestic city of Denver, Colorado. Alice came into the world as the third child of Benolia and Jerry Williams, joining her siblings Willie, Barnett, Jessie, James and Betty in a life filled with laughter and camaraderie. Her family expanded to include Venessa, Victoria, Philip, and Calvin from a blended home, reflecting her loving heart that embraced all.
From her childhood days spent at her grandmother's house to adventures with friends and family, Alice was always the fierce protector of her siblings, often finding herself in trouble for standing up for them. Her formidable spirit would shape her life's journey.
Alice attended Manual High School, graduating in 1977, and later returned to education, embracing her passion for Early Childhood Education at Arapahoe Community College, where she excelled with a 3.0 GPA.
Her journey in love led her first to Gus Wilkerson, whom she met in junior high, with their marriage on September 4, 1982, blossoming into a wonderful family with two cherished children, Kendra Dortch (T.C) and Gus Wilkerson Jr. (Tiffany). Years later, she found joy with Anthony Darden, whom she married on June 8, 1998, after a chance encounter at a nightclub. Together, they filled their lives with laughter, often dancing in their living room to any tune that played, creating a beautiful symphony of love and joy.
More than anything, Alice was a devoted mother and grandmother, affectionately known as "Nana." Her grandchildren—T'nya, Journee, Tazama Jr., Lilly, Jalaya, Janelle, Genesis, and Giana—held a special place in her heart. They recall countless precious memories, from cooking and park outings to the unconditional love she showered upon them. Nana’s house was a wonderland; always with a little extra McDonald’s money tucked away, she knew how to make them feel cherished, reminding them to “shine like new money.”
Alice dedicated her professional life to nurturing young minds as a lead teacher in the Infant room at the Primrose School at Ken Caryl. There, she forged lasting friendships, notably with her dear companion Michele, leaving a legacy of warmth and kindness in her wake. Her commitment extended to her community as well, where she was a devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church and School for over two decades.
Beyond her roles as mother and educator, Alice thrived in the company of her siblings and friends. Whether cutting a rug in her sister's living room, hunting for treasures at estate sales, or simply enjoying shared laughter, her upbeat demeanor and infectious smile brought joy to everyone around her.
Alice Jean Darden passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025, at AdventHealth Littleton, surrounded by love. She is survived by her beloved husband, Anthony, her cherished children Kendra and Gus Jr., her devoted siblings, and her seven adoring grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will carry her memory forward.
In remembering Alice, let us honor her spirit—a lady with a heart of gold, whose love knew no bounds. She taught us the meaning of family and the importance of putting others first. As we celebrate her life, may we carry her light with us always, keeping her spirit alive in our hearts.
