Alice Atkinson

September 22, 1932 — April 28, 2013

Alice Louise Atkinson was born on September 22, 1932, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina to Ernest Walter Atkinson and Mabel Saunders Atkinson. She was affectionately called "Pete" by family and friends. She was the youngest of five children born in the family. Alice received her formal education in Rocky Mount, NC and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. After graduation, she relocated to Washington, DC to live with her older sister, Arzora. She furthered her education by attending Howard University. While in college, she was given the nickname "Slim." In 1952, she united in holy matrimony to William Andrew Gill. To this union, Toni, Keith, Reginald and Ronald were born. William was stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The family shared many happy and precious moments together. Later, she was blessed to have two grandchildren, Tiana and Cameron. They lovingly called her "G-Ma," and fondly remember all the happy and memorable moments they shared together. By profession, Alice was employed as a Teacher's Aide while living in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She remained with the school district for many years. In 1978, she moved to Seattle, Washington and became employed by Sears and Roebuck Company as a Customer Service Representative in the Carpet Instillation Department. She is remembered as being a hard worker, dedicated and a person who performed her duties with a spirit of excellence. She retired from the company in 1992. Alice was a fun loving woman, who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she could be found watching basketball. She was an avid fan of the NBA. She also enjoyed gardening, listening to gospel music, reading, and playing bid whist. She enjoyed watching MSNBC to keep up with political programs and other current events. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful lady who leaves a legacy of love and laughter. To know Alice was to love her. To plant a seed in one's heart...To root it in love...To nourish it with time spent together...Yields a blossom that will flourish forever. Alice Louise Atkinson embraced Heaven on Sunday, April 28, 2013, in Littleton, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include three sons, Keith (Sandra) Gill of Colorado Springs, CO, Reginald (Charlotte) Gill of Highlands Ranch, CO and Ronald Gill of Denver; one daughter, Toni P. Gill of Highlands Ranch; two grandchildren, Tiana Lacee Gill and Cameron William Gill both of Highlands Ranch; nephews, Ernest (Patricia) Dunston of Seattle, WA, Walter (Deborah) Atkinson of Atlanta, GA and Gerald (Gwen) Williams of Rocky Mount, NC and a host of other relatives and many friends.
