Alfonzo "Luther" Reed

December 28, 1946 — June 12, 2025

Alfonzo Luther Reed was born to his parents, Esther Josephine and Alfonzo Reed on December 28, 1946 at Mercy Hospital in Montgomery County, Kansas. Luther was the oldest of 5 brothers, Eddie, Phillip, Clarence, and Cecle.

To know him was to love him, Luther was truly a peoples person, friendly to all and Loved everyone regardless if it was someone he had known for years or someone that he just met. Luther was always concerned with the welfare of others.

Luther was blessed with the birth of his son Jermaine Reed who was the apple of his eye. Although Jermaine lives in Kansas, they spent lots of quality time over the years.

In his free time, Luther enjoyed shopping and never met a shoe that he did not like. Luther truly had a shoe fetish, which made every shoe salesman lick their chops. When Mary and Luther went shopping, he could never get past the shoe aisle without making a purchase. Luther's last caregiver would tell him you are spending way too much and he should only spend for his wife Mary and himself. But Luther's reply often times would be, this is my money and you can't tell me how to spend it. Although he was stubborn, he was very genuine had a freehearted spirit.

Luther was also a staunch sports fan and will debate players, teams and titles with anyone. His favorite football team was the Dallas Cowboys and in his heart, Luther was not only a fan (fanatic) but also a player.

Luther enjoyed working, he gained employment through Alternative Support Inc. He worked at the Pottery Place in Aurora Colorado. Luther had been working there for over 10 years. His job title was called Pottery Assistant. Luther enjoyed designing, cutting and glazing the pottery. He also enjoyed assisting customers visiting the Pottery Shop to purchase pottery items.

Luther was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church and was not afraid to interject his thoughts during Sunday School. His favorite response to any and all negative statements was “Oh yeah God will have the last say”.
