Life’s Journey
Abraham Phifer
Those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one’s gone; those we love can never be more than a thought apart;for as long as there is memory, they’ll live on in the heart.
Abraham Phifer was born on July 11, 1960, in Muskegon, Michigan to his parents, Clardie Phifer, Sr. and Barbara Temple Phifer. He was the eighth child born in the family. He was raised surrounded by his brothers, Gary, Leonard, Tom, Clardie, Jesse, and his sisters, Tonie, JoAnne, Claudette, and Barbara. As a child, he was affectionately called “AP” by family and friends. He loved playing basketball, fishing, and bike riding with his friends. A fond childhood memory was that of AP putting tape on his mouth and bit the family dog, Duke. Duke cried, but he never bit AP again.
AP received his formal education by graduating from the class of 1978, from Muskegon High School located in Muskegon, Michigan. On July 26, 1978, Abraham enlisted in the United States Marine Corp Reserves. He was stationed in Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. While in the reserves, he earned a good conduct medal, a selected Marine Corp Reserve Medal, and a Rifle Marksmanship Badge. He was honorably discharged on July 25, 1984.By profession, AP was a Carpenter. He took great pride in his workmanship and those he worked for.
He was a fun-loving man who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he enjoyed a good cocktail and spending quality time with family and friends. His closest friend, Walter Norris will miss the many comraderies they shared together and the fact that he was a true and trusted friend. They enjoyed fishing, riding bikes, and even making homemade wine by stomping grapes with their feet. He shared a special closeness with his four nieces, Schenavia Wilson, Tamar Moss-Joseph, Anne Donson, and Chandra Phifer. As well as his special nephew, Jeffrey Brooks. He loved them dearly and they will forever cherish the memories they shared with him. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful man. To know Abraham was to love him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Barbara and Clardie Phifer; brothers, Gary L. Temple, Leonard Phifer, Tom Phifer, sisters, Tonie D. Brooks, Barbara J. Phifer, JoAnne Phifer ; grandparents, Myrtle L. Robinson and Alex Robinson; nieces, Aretha A. Brooks, Krisunda Temple, DesSiree L. Wilson, Ebonie D. Flowers; and nephew, Jerry L. Temple.
