Katherine Taylor

June 25, 1956 — May 2, 2014

Katherine "Kat" Taylor, was born on June 25, 1956, in Merigold, Mississippi to Calvin Whitney and Sadie Mae Whitney. The second born of seven children, Katherine had five sisters, Ruby Jean, Earnestine, Lorine, Rosie, Tomeka and one brother, Calvin. Katherine was a supremely strong, intelligent, outspoken, opinionated, and very forgiving mother. She is remembered by her children as a great woman who accepted people for who they were, a brutally honest God-fearing mother who believe that God always had a plan and if she ever doubted herself her trust in God would deliver all things. Leadership, teaching, and education were her passion. She was an alumnus of Metropolitan State College of Denver, earning her Bachelor of Arts in History in 1991. Katherine was a substitute teacher for the Denver Public School and Aurora Public Schools systems for more than 10 years. She was a certified dental hygienist and a retail manager for Southland Corporation for 23 years. Her mother remembers her as always having three or more things going on at one time, she said if something didn't work out she would always have another thing to fall back on. Katherine always had a plan and built a platform for the success of her daughters through her perseverance, zest for life, healthy, vibrant living, and morally driven work ethic. Katherine was a kind, loving mother who valued family and friendship dearly, she would always cook with the expectation of family stopping by; this way they would always have something to eat when they visited her home. She valued personal time with her daughters; who remember fun at concerts, summer swimming lessons, road trips full of country music and her contagious laugh, a woman who would laugh hysterically at her own jokes! She loved her mother, siblings, children, and grandchildren without fault. She practiced tough love and instilled the importance of responsibility in all of her children at a very young age. Katherine will be remembered as a woman of flawless beauty and a heavenly smile who valued the beauty in all of her daughters and made it a point to compliment and remind them of their unique beauty every time she saw them. She is remembered by her nephews and nieces as a woman who taught them to chase their dreams and "chip away at life." She was a woman of steel and raised her four daughters to be tough as nails. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed. Through her ideals and reputable faith she leaves her daughters with a legacy of unrelenting strength and honor. On May 2, 2014, the sun set on the graceful and beautiful life of Katherine "Kat" Taylor.
