Helen Cole

August 16, 1958 — December 14, 2013

Helen Marie Cole was born August 16, 1958, in Denver, Colorado, the fifth child of Billy Franklin Cole and Leneice Castille Cole. She was raised surrounded by her brothers, Graylon, William and Bolen and her sisters, Mary and Elizabeth. As children, she and her brother William took great delight in teaming up to torture their babysitter, (big sis Mary!). Even as young child she was a fierce protector and didn't take kindly to anyone messing with her siblings! Helen ran track for the Denver All Track Team under the leadership of the late Al Durst, she won numerous first place medals around the country. As we speak, Helen's medals are on display at the Blair-Caldwell Library. Helen accepted Christ at an early age, she attended Zion Baptist Church. She received her early education in Denver and graduated from South High School in 1976. She attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado Helen was the proud mother of one child, her son Franklin Jamal, he brought her tremendous joy. In August, 1986, she married Vernon H. Hurd in Las Vegas, Nevada, they would later divorce. Helen was blessed with four beautiful grandchildren, Uriah, Amaiah, Josiah and Nehemiah, she loved to spoil them, spending entire weekends with them. She took great joy in giving them the treats their parents didn't allow them to have and taking them to their favorite place, The Dollar Tree! Helen first worked for King Soopers for seven years as a cashier; she then changed professions and worked for Colorado Collection Company of America for thirteen years as their receptionist/ bookkeeper. Helen was a fun loving woman with a smile that could light up a room; she enjoyed life and those she encircled. She and her partner and soul mate Michael McLin (Big Mike) loved to entertain! Whenever there was a Bronco game on, they would hang out their Bronco banner, put on their Bronco gear and cook for hours! Helen was an excellent cook and baker. Everyone begged her to cook her mouthwatering Santa Fe Chicken, she best known for baking the best pound cake and chocolate cake around. Her nephew Matthew would not eat macaroni and cheese unless it was made by Auntie Helen! Helen departed this life to the Lord's embrace on December 14, 2013 in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her son, Franklin J. (Kendra) Hurd; her mother, Leneice Cole; two brothers, Graylon M. (Janet) Cole and William M.
