Gus Flerry

August 3, 1934 — June 4, 2014

Gus V. Flerry was born on August 3, 1934, in Wichita, Kansas, to Oliver S. Flerry and Junetta E. Brown. He was the last of four children born to this union. Gus was a graduate of Manual high School in Denver Colorado and a college graduate of the Community College of Denver. Shortly after high school, Gus was introduced to Joyce M. Langford while in Wichita Kansas. They later moved to Denver Colorado, where they were joined in holy matrimony on December 15, 1959, and to this union four children were born. Gus entered into the selective service in 1960 and served four years in the U.S. Air force with training in military fabrication work. He completed courses in advanced electricity while working for Public Service Company in 1966. Gus was also promoted to Service Foreman of Plant Services from janitor in less than one year while employed at Dow Chemical. Ultimately, he retired from RTD in January 1994, where he was employed as a Mechanic and was promoted to the Upholstery Shop Supervisor. Gus was a 33rd Degree Free and Accepted Mason. He truly enjoyed the camaraderie shared with all his fellow brothers and sisters. He was a member of the Toe to Toe Dancers, which was a local ensemble chaperoned by pianist, Deloris Washington. He enjoyed card games such as pinochle and spades; he played ping pong, checkers, chess; he loved watching movies and football and last but not least, his overall favorite hobby was fishing. A devoted husband and father, Gus was a man of faith and believed in the Lord. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church and although unable to physically attend in his later years, he believed everyone needed a relationship with the Lord and continued to worship and praise the Lord regularly. He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce M. Flerry, his parents, Oliver and Junetta Flerry, his sister, Bethea L. Jones and his brother, Oliver S. Flerry Jr. Gus departed this life to the Lord's embrace on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, in Denver Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory include his four children, Gus V. Flerry Jr., Bethea L. Flerry, Oliver S. Flerry and Anthony L. D. Flerry; his brother, William T. Flerry Sr.; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
