Ernestine Cozart

Ernestine Cozart, also known as, "Toni" was born on February 7, 1930, in McAlester, Oklahoma to her parents John Ernest Batson, Jr. and Amber Theora Johnson Batson. She was the fifth child born in a family of twelve. She was surrounded by her brothers, George, Alfred, Robert, Billy, Donald, Kenneth and her sisters, Dorothy Marie, Amber "Sister", Patricia, and Louise "Polly". As a child, Toni liked to sing, dance, and cook. She was also a tomboy who liked to play with her brothers. She would always be the first to get the lunchbox of their fathers when he returned from the coalmine and one-time it contained a bullfrog which scared her. She is also remembered as having fellowship with her family, watching soap operas, and loving to dress up. She graduated from L'Ouverture High School in 1949. Toni united in holy matrimony to Calvin Eugene Cozart, Sr. They first met when they both lived in McAlester, Oklahoma and later moved to Denver, Colorado. To this union Charlotte "Gail", Gloria "Jennie", Calvin Eugene, Jr. "Mike", and Randolph "Tiger" were born. They remember her as loving them unconditionally. She was a mother whose pride and joy was the care and nurturing of her family. Toni was later blessed with seven grandchildren, An'Drea "Auni", Angela "Angie", Adrianne, Alexa "Lexa", Alicia, Valerie and Tevin. She had 14 great grandchildren, LaKysha "Kysha", Clayton, III, Robert IV, Aaron "AJ", DeWayne, Ashlei, Brittnea, Alexis, Aric, Aleyia, Ashtin, Alonyia, Amair, and Amarion. She also had 10 great- great grandchildren. For the most part, she enjoyed the opportunity to babysit them all. Toni was no stranger to hard work. In her early years, she worked in several different places of employment. She retired from Keebler Company as a Production Administrator and Assembly Line 2 Supervisor and her last place of employment was Sears. Toni was a well-liked manager, who tried to treat everyone fairly and objectively, no matter who the individual was. She was also known as a "Classy Lady" who always looked great no matter what day of the week especially Sundays. As a woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Toni was baptized at a very young age. She was a fun loving women who enjoyed life and those she encircled. She enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends, shopping, cooking, family dinners, and scratching lottery tickets. Toni will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this wonderful woman. She leaves a void that can never be replaced. Ernestine "Toni" Cozart departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on May 24, 2015 in Denver Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her children, Gloria, Calvin, Randy, seven brothers and sisters, known as the "Batson/Walton Clan", seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and 10 great - great grandchildren, a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
