Dorska Law

April 16, 1923 — December 4, 2012

Dorska Lee Law was born when he blessed his parents, Levert Law and Minnie Howze Law with his birth on April 16, 1923, in Coffeeville, Alabama. He was the second of three children born in the family. He was raised surrounded by his brother, Calvin and his sister, Christine. Dorska received his formal education in Alabama where he attended the local public schools. In 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served during World War II, as part of the 92nd Engineering Division, also known as the Buffalo Soldiers. While serving his country, he was awarded an Army Occupation Medal, while stationed in Germany and he earned a WW II Victory Ribbon. He served with honor and distinction and was honorably discharged. On March 1, 1946, Dorska united in holy matrimony to the former Annie Bell Howze. The couple first met when they both worked for Dorska's father in Coffeeville. To this union, Augustine, Travis, Leon, Darrell, Darlene, Donney, Derrick, Denise and Betty Jean were born. The family relocated to Denver, Colorado in 1952. They all shared many happy and precious moments together whether it was fishing or just spending quality time together as a family. Dorska was blessed to have 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He was known as the "Old Man" and enjoyed driving his grandchildren to school. The family remembers him working in his garden and collecting cans throughout the neighborhood. Annie Bell and his daughter Betty Jean preceded him in death. A man of faith and belief in the Lord, Dorska accepted the Lord as his personal savior at a very early age and joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church. By profession, Dorska was employed by D.C. Trucking, Navajo Freighting, and United Meat Packing House and in 1983 he retired from Coca Cola Company. In every place of employment he was respected for being hardworking, dedicated and a man who performed assigned duties with a spirit of excellence. Dorska was a fun loving man, who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending quality time with family and friends. His closest friend Mike Stewart will miss the camaraderie they shared together. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful man. To know Dorska was to love him. Dorska Lee Law departed this life on December 4, 2012, in his home in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss 5 sons, Travis O.
