Billie Howard

July 2, 1936 — May 6, 2013

Billie Howard was born on July 2, 1932, in Chester, South Carolina. He was raised surrounded by his brother, Humbert. As a child, he loved playing ball in his front yard and helping his mother around the house. He received his formal education in South Carolina. On April 13, 1953, Billie enlisted in the United States Army. While serving his country, he was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and stationed in Temple, Texas. He served with honor and distinction and was honorably discharged. On November 19, 1970, Billie united in holy matrimony to the former Dorothy L. Bell. They first met in Denver, Colorado. They enjoyed dancing, card games and vacations in Las Vegas. With this union, he became the father of Vickie. He was also blessed to be the father of Elizabeth, Billy, Jr. and Patrick. The family enjoyed Sundays dining at Furs, visits to the local donut shop, family visits to Kentucky and the Dog Track. They shared many happy and precious moments together. Later his grandchildren, Qiana, Lakee, DeVaughn, David, Jr., Kiara, Charles, Sheresha, Billy, Jr., Patrick and Jazara were an additional source of joy and pride in life. They lovingly called him "BB Howard" and fondly remember listening to music, shopping, the donut shop visits and going to the park. He was also happy to be the great grandfather of La'Zarria, Joe'l, Kayia and Keonsia. By profession, Billie was employed by the United States Postal Service as a Mechanic. His co-workers and employers remember him being hard working, dependable, honest and a joy to work around. He retired after many years of dedicated service. A man of faith and belief in the Lord, Billie joined Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. He was a member for over 15 years. He truly enjoyed his walk with the Lord and the fellowship shared with his church family. Billie was a fun loving man who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he spent quality time with family and friends. He was avid Denver Bronco fan, he loved family cook outs, eating Churches Chicken and drinking Pepsi. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful man. To know Billie was to love him.
