Bernice Harris

May 23, 1929 — September 19, 2014

Bernice Harris was born on May 23, 1929, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She is the daughter of Ida B. Williams. She was the only child born in the family. She received her early education in Arkansas, where she attended Peake High School. Bernice was the proud mother of one daughter, she named Martha. She remembers her mother as a woman who was all about family. She was loving and nurturing and always available when needed. She was later blessed with two grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeffery, who were an additional source of joy and pride in her life. They remember her as a loving and devoted grandmother. By profession, Bernice was employed as a Waitress at "Miss Ethel's" House of Soul Restaurant located in the Five Points Historic District of Denver. She worked in the restaurant for a number of years. She was one of the first to greet patrons when dining. She carried a jovial personality and offered "service with a smile." A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Bernice was a faithful and dedicated member of Campbell Chapel AME Church in Denver, Colorado. She truly enjoyed her walk with the Lord and the fellowship shared with her church family. She has been a member for over 60 years. Bernice was a fun-loving woman, who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she enjoyed sports, fishing and spending quality time with family and friends. She was a person who never met a stranger. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful woman. To know Bernice was to love her. Bernice Harris departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on September 19, 2014, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her daughter, Martha J. (Jack) Allen; 2 grandchildren, Jennifer Y. Allen and Jeffery S. Allen; 3 great grandchildren, Paris F. Allen, Julian M. Allen and Anton R. Weeams; 1 great-great granddaughter, Aalayah S.
